Shrikhand Kailash Trek
Scaling the heights of Shrikhand Kailash – one of the most challenging religious Himalayan treks in India. The whole experience is like an access to stairway to heaven. Positioned at an altitude of 5595 meters / 18350 ft height, Shrikhand Mahadev Peak looks like the Shivling. It is believed that Lord Shiva meditated at this peak and it was visited by Pandavas as well. The peak offers engrossing views of nature. The surrounding snow covered peaks add on to the natural charm of the place. The trek to Shrikhand Mahadev is a treat for adventurers, nature lovers and spirituality seekers. At the top of Shrikhand Mahadev, there is a small shrine of Lord Shiva that is visited by the devotees in a great extent. July and August is the main pilgrimage season in which the devotees of Lord Shiva pay a visit to the peak of the mountain. Thus, Shrikhand Mahadev can be considered as the destination of great importance for both the Hindu devotees and trekking enthusiasts alike.
Legend behind Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra
According to Hindu mythology, Bhasamasur meditated for several years. Lord Shiva got pleased and gave him bhasama kangan. Due to pride and ego Bhasamasur tried to use the bhasama kangan (the invisible powder) on Lord Shiva , Mahadev vanished into a cave and later appeared on a hill top that is presently known as the Shrikhand Mahadev Peak and the cave into which he had vanished is known as Devdhank and is situated near Nirmand.
Legend also reveals that the Pandavas had undertaken this pilgrimage.The giant mountains of the Indian Himalayas are home to exotic flora and fauna. ♦Day 1 ♦ Shimla to Jao Village
Shimla to Jao Village Via Devdhank and Surya Narayan Temple (one in India in Neerth, Himachal Pradesh). 160 kms journey by car. 6 hours drive. Overnight at Camp.
♦Day 2 ♦ Jao to Thaacharu
Trek starts early in the morning (12 km trek) 9-10 hours. Overnight at Camp.
♦Day 3 ♦ Thaacharu to Kunsha
(9 km trek) 9-10 hours. Overnight at Camp.
♦Day 4 ♦ Kunsha to Bhim Dawari
(7 km trek) 3-4 hours. Overnight at Camp.
♦Day 5 ♦ Bhim Dawari to Shrikhand Kailash Darshan & back to Kunsha
(23 km trek).13-14 hours. Overnight at Camp.
♦Day 6 ♦ Kunsha to Jao
Rampur, the erstwhile capital of the princely state of Bushahr, is a beautiful town situated on the banks of the Sutlej River, on the India-Tibet Road, in Himachal Pradesh. It is 132 km north-east of Shimla, at an altitude of 924 m. Places of tourist interest include the gabled Padam Palace, Raghunathji Temple and Narsingh Temple. The Lavi Mela, celebrated in late October or early November, is a major attraction and is attended by a large number of people. Overnight at Rampur.
